Marian H. Sanford, 99, of Shippensburg, and formerly of Newport, and Harrisburg, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 24, 2019 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Born Monday, September 8, 1919 in Benld, Illinois, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Monica Herman Dannis.

She graduated from Springfield Nursing Hospital in 1941. Marian was a 1st Lieutenant in the United States Army, serving in WWII as a Nurse with the 44th Field Hospital in Central Burma-India.

She was a member of Our Lady of the Visitation Catholic Church, Shippensburg.

She was married November 25, 1945 to William Shultz Sanford, Sr.

Surviving is her daughter, Sue (Robert) Kiley, Shippensburg, one son, William S. (Jane) Sanford, Jr., Camp Hill; five grandchildren, Kim (Doug) Hill, Darby Kiley, Sharon (John) Shingara, Richard (Laurie) Sanford, and Maegan (Samuel) Leone; seven great grandchildren, Jessica Shingara, William, Fiona, and Elliot Sanford, Samuel, Landen, and Kaylee Leone.

A Mass of Christian burial will be private. Burial with full Military Honors will be in Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
