Obituary for Jean Barnhart (Clugston)
Jean Barnhart, 78, of Newburg, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 8, 2019 at her home, surrounded by her loving family.
Born Saturday, September 28, 1940 in Newville, she was a daughter of the late Nelson Charles, and Mary Alice Hockenberry Clugston.
Jean was a member of the Newburg United Methodist Church. She was a former member of the Cumberland County Farm Women Group # 10. She worked at the former U-Wanna-Wash Frock Clothing Factory, in Newville, and later worked as a waitress at Green Ridge Village Nursing Home, in Newville.
She enjoyed animals, and gardening, and loved and cherished her family, especially her grandchildren.
Jean is survived by her husband of 60 years, Omar Barnhart, whom she married April 4, 1959; two sons, Darrell L. (Deborah) Barnhart, and Keith A. Barnhart, all of Newburg; two grandsons, Nathan D. Barnhart, Pleasant Hall, and Tyler K. Barnhart, San Diego, CA; and two sisters, Dorine Barnhart, Chambersburg, and Mary Lou Shew, Newburg.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Douglas O. Barnhart, and one brother, Edward Clugston.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 13, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in the Newburg United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Judi A. Herrold officiating. Burial will be in Otterbein Cemetery. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service in the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Newburg United Methodist Church, 203 High Street, Newburg, PA 17240.
