Obituary for Edwina L. Devore (Kaufman)

Edwina L. Devore, 87, a resident of Menno Haven, formerly of Walnut Bottom, departed this life on the morning of Sunday, October 13, 2019.

She was born on October 19, 1931, in Upper Strasburg, a daughter of the late Daniel and Miriam (VanScyoc) Kaufman and was a 1949 graduate of Shippensburg Area Senior High School. Edwina married Rodney C. Devore on April 28, 1951. He preceded her in death on December 4, 2006.

Throughout her life Edwina worked as a seamstress at the former L’Aiglon Clothing Co., Shippensburg, Hill’s Department Store, Carlisle, and Ames Department Store, Carlisle, where she retired from in 2006.

Edwina enjoyed attending Trinity United Methodist Church meals and luncheons with her friends and sisters. She liked shopping, yard sales, and collecting bears along with her sisters, and Edwina always enjoyed the holidays and spending time with her family.

She is survived by one son, Samuel N. Devore and wife Sherry of Walnut Bottom; two daughters, Lisa R. Devore-Irelan and husband Robert of Fairfax, VA, and Heidi C. Gardner and husband Sam of Fayetteville; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Edwina was preceded in death by two daughters, Sherry Brooks and Denise Sheaffer; two sisters, Janie Gilbert and Pat Caroto; and one brother, Jack Kaufman.

Her graveside funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, October 19, 2019 in the Spring Hill Cemetery, Shippensburg. The Rev. Robert Stump will officiate. There will be no public viewing or visitation.
