Obituary for Thomas Van Dyke Jr.

Thomas Van Dyke, Jr., 95, of Shippensburg, departed this life on the evening of Tuesday, December 3, 2019, at Menno Haven.

He was born on March 27, 1924, in Waldwick, NJ, the son of the late Thomas and Julia (Morgan) Van Dyke, Sr. Tom was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, inducted on February 1, 1943 and honorably discharged on December 5, 1945. He married Avonne B. Rhinesmith on March 27, 1947. She preceded him in death on May 17, 2011.

Tom worked at ITT Marlow Pumps for forty-seven years, retiring in 1989 as a Dye and Tool Maker. He was a long-time member of the Bethel Assembly of God, Carlisle.

In his free time, Tom enjoyed fishing, hunting, and working around his house and in his yard. He, like his father before him, enjoyed the challenge of putting a sharp edge on a saw. People would always come to Tom for help in fixing things. He would always gladly oblige because he really enjoyed the rewards of helping another person out as much as he could.

He is survived by his daughters, Cathie M. Misiak and husband Michael of Tecumseh, MI, and Faye E. Dromeshauser and husband Jim of Shippensburg; one sister, Natalie Bither of Temecula, CA; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; five step-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife of sixty three years, Avonne, Tom was preceded in death by one sister, Jean Coffman.

His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Monday, December 9, 2019, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg. Pastor Alan Lane and Pastor Chuck Kish will officiate. Viewing will be one hour prior to the service on Monday at the funeral home.

Tom will be laid to rest at 1:00 p.m., on Tuesday, December 10, 2019, at the George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus, NJ.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Walter Hoving Home at PO Box 194, 40 Walter Hoving Road, Garrison, NY 10524.
